Captain Dinesh Karthik and opener Srikanth Anirudha enjoyed good time with the bat on the last day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Super League (Group-A) match, which ended in a draw against Orissa at Veer Surendra Sai Stadium in Sambalpur today.
Tamil Nadu secured three points by virtue of taking first innings lead, while host Orissa contended themselves with one point. Tamil Nadu continued to lead the group table with 20 points from five matches, which include two wins and three draws. Orissa slipped from fifth to sixth position with six points in their account. In the sixth round to be played from December 8 to 11, Tamil Nadu would meet Mumbai at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai and Orissa would take on Punjab at Sector-16 Stadium, Chandigarh.
After taking the all-important first innings lead, Tamil Nadu chose to use the last day of their game against Orissa for batting practice. Skipper Karthik capitalised on the occasion to notch up a big hundred (152 off 157 balls, 19x4, 2x6), while Anirudha slammed 81 (93 balls, 12x4).
Resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 62 for no loss, Tamil Nadu batted on to finish the day at 375 for eight. Though the visitors were leading by 244 runs at lunch with six wickets in hand, captain Karthik did not declare the innings.
